essays service Korea has entered the global market for treating erectile dysfunction, competing against globally recognized drugs such as Viagra and Levitra. Dong-A Pharmaceutical Co. said yesterday that it received approval from the Korea Food and Drug Administration to produce Zydena.
The company has invested 20 billion won ($19 million) since 1997 in the development of the first Korean medication for treating the problem. The government provided 2.2 billion won in financial support for researching new drugs. Zydena will be offered in the Korean market next month. "The three multinational pharmaceutical companies that successfully developed the only erectile dysfunction-curing medications, Viagra, Levitra and Cialis, have been dominating the 90 billion won Korean market," said a Dong-A Pharmaceutical spokesman. "The alternative choice Zydena will offer will be enormous." The company said it plans to enter the U.S market in 2009. "We hold the patent in 30 countries, and Zydena will be sold in other parts of the world after we receive approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration," the spokesman said.
The government estimates that some 2 million men in Korea suffer from erectile dysfunction.
